School Community Council and COGSO

The Jingili School Community Council is incorporated under the Education Act. It is made up of representatives of the whole school community who are committed to the school and to involving more parents and teachers in the decision making process.

The council has responsibilities in the areas of:
·       advising the principal about the educational needs of the community through the action a planning process
·       building links between parents, the community and the school
·       determining community use of facilities
·       budgeting
·       maintenance of buildings and grounds
·       representation on the selection of senior school staff

The council meets once a month on a Tuesday evening. All parents are encouraged to attend meetings although only Council members have voting rights. The council puts in place ‘project teams’ as the need arises.
 



2023 Jingili School Community Council

• COGSO is the short name for the Council of Government School Organisations
• It works for parents and School Councils in NT Government schools, helping them get organised, training people and representing them in dealings with the government
• Regional COGSO representatives (from Darwin, Palmerston and Rural, East Arnhem, Katherine, Barkly and Southern Region) meet four times a year to talk about their regions main concerns at COGSO Executive meetings
• The COGSO President and other Executive members meet with the Minister for Education and the Department of    Education each month
• Our School Council elects a COGSO representative. Representatives from each regions Regional Council, meets to discuss the issues in the region that they think should be taken to COGSO Executive.
